Fuck Normativity is an intersectional blog dealing with social justice issues, roller derby, photography and academia. It’s about moving past normative discourse to understand issues in contemporary society, and their relation to one another. It’s also just a place to talk about my life!
Fuck normativity came about because of my frusteration with some of the blogosphere, and difficulty of some blogs to truly incorporate an intersectional approach in their discussion of social justice issues. This is not to say that Fuck Normativity is perfect, just another place to try and round out the picture, and bring together some issues that aren’t commonly seen together elsewhere on the blogosphere.
Fuck Normativity will be coming from a place of academics, but it is also designed to help me as a student begin to move past the safety of theories and bring things into a practical applicable realm.
One of the things I appreciate about this blog, is the opportunity it grants me to reflect on issues I am struggling with in my own life. This often means dealing with issues of fat acceptance, mental health and animal rights. It is not always academic, but I have learned that ultimately it is impossible to separate the work I am doing in academia from the stresses of my everyday life. This blog lets me bridge my two worlds, sometimes eloquently and sometimes not so eloquently. Thanks for putting up with my often inane ramblings!
